This statue is called Christ the Redeemer and is found in Brazil near Rio de Jameiro on top of the Corcovado Mountain. At this position, the 72 year old statue overlooks the city and the idea originated for the statue when the country celebrated 100 years of independence. Carlos Oswaldo commissioned and envisioned the design of the statue. The first design of the statue included Christ carrying a cross and holding a globe in his hands whilde standing over a pedestal, representing the world. This later changed to the simple idea of Christ with open arms to best represent the city. The statue was sculpted in France by Paul Landowski. The statue, Christ the Redeemer, not only gives viewers a great view of the city, but there is also much history behind the statue that would be benefitial for anyone to learn.
To me, the statue, Christ the Redeemer, means the symbol of peace and freedom. This may mean that Jesus protected the people this long from enemies and kept peace throughout Brazil. The statue is large, smooth and majestic, suggesting the way they percieve Jesus and his holiness. He is wearing fine clothes and his hair is brushed back, suggesting to us that his face needs to be seen. Jesus's arms are outstrectched wide, suggesting that he welcomes all to the city of Rio de Jameiro, or that he blesses everyone in the city to be safe and free as he watches over the city, which explain why Jesus is placed at the top of the hill overlooking the city. Christ the Redeemer is a beautiful piece of  Brazilian landscape that should be enjoyed by everyone that lives or visits there.
